This paper deals with the results of research on the laboratory analysis of firefighting water in fire trucks and the possibility of its disinfection for subsequent use as an alternative source of safe water supply to the affected areas. The quality of the water in these vehicles after filling the internal tank is relatively unclear. For this purpose, over a period of 5 months (July to November), water samples were taken from firefighting trucks. The samples were then analyzed in an accredited laboratory. Laboratory analyzes focused mainly on indicators of microbial pollution. The microbial analysis included the determination of coliform bacteria, E. coli, Legionella spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and cultivable microorganisms. 42 water samples were taken from firefighting trucks at 31 fire protection units across the Czech Republic. According to the chosen legislation, none of the water samples fulfil the limits of drinking water. This research also focused on measures to ensure safe water in fire truck tanks. The most effective method, based on laboratory analyses, is the use of chemical disinfection, especially chlorine and chlorine compounds. This method of disinfection is inexpensive and effective for all monitored indicators of microbial contamination.
