Architecture construction and engineering (ACE) is one of the most widespread industries in the world. At the same time, the construction industry consumes 50% of extracted primary sources of raw materials, 50% of energy consumption, 33% of water consumption and produces a third of the generated waste to create buildings and construction products. A lean construction represents an innovative approach in the construction industry that aims to maximize efficiency, minimize waste and improve the overall performance of construction projects.
The life cycle of buildings consists of four basic phases - building design, implementation, use and disposal of the building. The principles of lean construction can be applied in all production phases. The level of effectiveness of the lean construction application and, consequently, the effectiveness of the reduction of construction waste depends on the type of lean tools applied. The aim of the paper is to point out the possibilities and effectiveness of the application of selected tools of lean construction (prefabrication, lean layout and 5S method) for the reduction of construction waste. The research was processed through a case study. The object of the case study was the Allbelli residential building in Slovakia. It was confirmed that it is possible to significantly reduce the amount of construction waste generated by a suitable modern method of construction – prefabrication.
