In recent years, wildfires have become more frequent, intense, and long-lasting due to the combined effects of climate change, including prolonged droughts, rising temperatures, and shifting weather patterns. These conditions, along with expanding urban development in Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) zones, have increased risks to human life, infrastructure, and ecosystems. Tools that are used to simulate wildfires are very useful and effective in fire risk management. In this paper, and under the framework of the project RES2FIRE, a series of wildfire simulations were carried out for the Velvento forest region in Western Macedonia, Greece to analyze the fire behavior under three different situations. These were the Baseline scenario, the High-risk scenario and the scenario of wildfires close to WUI zones. The results show that under extreme conditions fire behavior can be unpredictable and the consequences severe and when the area of Velvento forest experience mild weather and wind conditions the fire behavior can be manageable. Finally, the impact of wildfires contribute to the development of measures and action plans for protection and response strategies, such as evacuation plans, exclusion zones and others.
