The efficiency of the possessed forest resources in relation to gross value added (GVA) produced in forestry of fourteen European Union member states (Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Sweden) in 2022 is assessed by means of Data envelopment analysis (DEA), an input-oriented BCC model with variable returns to scale (VRS). On this grounds is established that in the forestry of 7 EU member states (Austria (0,89), Bulgaria (0,71), Croatia (0,82), France (0,92), Germany (0,66), Poland (0,81) and Romania (0,92)) the forest resources are not used efficiently. The average value of the efficiency coefficient – 0.8185 means that the produced level of GVA in the forestry of the 7 EU member states in 2022 should be achieved with an average of 18.14% less input forest resources from the possessed. From the efficiency coefficient values presented in the brackets above can be concluded that in 2022 the forest resources are used most inefficiently in the forestry of Germany. The GVA produced by the country's forestry should be achieved with 34.00% less forest resources than the possessed. After the forestry of Germany in terms of the level of inefficient use of forest resources is the forestry of Bulgaria. The GVA produced by it should be achieved with 29.00% less forest resources than the possessed. On the grounds of the values of the efficiency coefficient conclusions for rational use of possessed forest resources are done.
