In the era of Industry 4.0, IoT technologies are fundamental for enabling real-time monitoring, operational transparency, and resource efficiency in industrial environments. This paper presents an IoT-based system for monitoring Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), integrating machine-level data to assess availability, performance, and quality in production processes.
By combining OEE metrics with real-time energy consumption data, the system supports circular economy goals through reduced energy usage per unit, minimized downtime, and predictive maintenance. The proposed approach helps identify process inefficiencies and areas of energy waste, contributing to sustainable production practices and environmental impact reduction.
The modular and scalable architecture of the system allows adaptation across various industrial settings, including resource- and energy-intensive sectors. Although the data shown are illustrative and based on simulated values, they highlight the potential of IoT-driven monitoring as a tool for continuous improvement. The paper also proposes further research into the development of integrated KPIs that combine productivity and energy indicators to support sustainability-oriented decision-making.
