This paper aims to identify and analyse opportunities for improving financing mechanisms in the environmental sector by exploiting the opportunities provided by public-private partnerships. The need to create conditions and opportunities for strengthening ecological financing mechanisms in Bulgaria is identified as an essential element through which sustainable development goals can be achieved, while also aligning regional and national environmental policies with European environmental policies. There is a growing interest in seeking innovative financing solutions to address environmental challenges. Public-private partnerships have emerged as a significant and promising approach that can increase the effectiveness and efficiency of using public and private resources. The role of public-private partnerships in creating the conditions for improving and allocating financial resources towards sustainable initiatives is undeniable. In this study, we will focus on the primary barriers and opportunities related to integrating public-private partnerships into environmental financing mechanisms. Based on this analysis, strategies are proposed to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of both existing financial instruments and structures, as well as to leverage the potential of innovative models to address the identified issues and challenges. Based on the analysis of the specificities of public-private partnership arrangements, recommendations are provided to optimise financing modalities and achieve sustainable economic growth, while supporting environmental sustainability in various regions of the country. This article focuses on public-private partnerships and the potential application of innovative solutions to address local and regional environmental challenges, including waste management issues and opportunities for enhancing the utilisation of renewable energy.
