This contribution provides a prefabricated elements constructive system, which guarantees definite features and energy saving, with integrated energy performances and structural behaviors.
First, we considered the requirement framework, identifying which were the indispensable energy, structural, environmental and product performances. These choices were then examined through UNI PdR13, which is today the benchmark for Sustainability in Italy.
Secondly, the market scenario of this system was defined, identifying the main competitor construction systems, the range of costs, potentialities and possible market penetration.
The concept of the 3Rs was the main guideline and led to the choice of specific construction materials and techniques that, from the use of dry construction joints, addressed the design choices towards eco-sustainable and reversible solutions for the construction techniques, for materials (often obtained as transfer from other technological sectors) and for land use.
From an energetic and structural point of view, the building is thought to be an organic, structurally and energetically powerful entity capable of self-diagnosis in case of earthquake and self-regulation depending on user behavior and climatic conditions, controlling integrated management consumption, production and needs.
The energy performances, achieved and verified for three different climatic conditions, confirm that the construction system engages in the scenario of the nZEB buildings but can be transformed with few integrations in an OFFGRID building.
A key element for a building that aims to achieve these performance is the behavior of the user: it is necessary for those who use a home with these performances and facilities to be aware and conscious; therefore, training and instructions for proper use are a primary objective of the project.
Summing up, you can develop a strongly integrated project with high levels of customization using standardized prefabricated production systems. These buildings can have high performances, cost-effective performance, where energy management, behavior and structural monitoring allow for a constant active knowledge of the building.
This system is the result of collaboration between public university and private companies: it demonstrates that it is possible to design innovative, active construction systems that can produce safer, more comfortable, more resilient buildings, boosting employment through productive chains and inter-company partnership.
