This paper deals with current applied research focused on energy gain from wastewater (WW) for heating and cooling in a new multifunctional building.
Energy-saving and environmental protection technologies are becoming one of the most important issues in the design and construction in EU. Energy gain from WW is often associated with piping exchangers, but there are alternative methods such as input pipes with pumping station (PS) and heat exchanger system (HES) with automatic surface cleaning and solids removal.
Energy recovery HES with heat pumps is applied at design stage in the new multifunctional building, with 4 underground and 9 above-ground floors, in the city of Brno. Close to the building, there is situated a main sewer, with dimension of 5100/3000 mm, average year dry-weather flow 286 l?s-1 with 15.2 °C. During design process the flow and temperature WW were monitored and compared. Currently applied research designs for hydraulic piping as input and output pipes to PS with capacity 90 l?s-1 in a mathematical simulation program FLOW-3D and models heat demand and cold consumption of the building.
The HES with capacity 90 l?s-1 WW represent recovery technologies of WW with total performance for input 15.2 °C gain 771.1 kWh (for cooling) and 9.6 °C gain 633.4 kWh (for heating), and it seems to be a suitable solution for a green energy building.
