It is a well-known fact that in today?s globalizing world, information, communication and IT are intrinsic to modern society. Information technologies have certainly affected the sphere of education, namely higher educational institutions. Progressive development of the Internet as a system of shared access gives new opportunities of acquiring knowledge. A specialist of the XXI century should be able to use information resources productively, as well as to think creatively and have communication skills.
LMS (Learning management system) Moodle is effectively used by the faculty members of the ?Foreign language? department at Krasnoyarsk state agrarian university. Many electronic complexes have been developed in the discipline ?Foreign language?. The distance learning system proved to be very effective and to open wide opportunities to monitor each student?s progress, as well as to facilitate the controlling. Young generation shows great interest and desire to use modern information technologies, so distance learning improves students? motivation in learning foreign languages.
The application of the point- rating system optimizes the learning process, it has obvious advantages: motivation of the student to rhythmic, systematic work during semester; the possibility of correcting the learning outcomes of the student and corrective actions in relation to the subjects of the educational process in course of study; detailed design, structuring, objectivity and transparency learning outcomes assessment tools; visibility and accessibility of learning outcomes for all members of the learning process.
When choosing LMS Moodle, the management of information and computer security of Krasnoyarsk SAU was guided by the following principles: system security; the ability to install on any hardware and software platform; simple, intuitive interface; the presence of functions used for the organization of e ? learning with the use of distance learning technologies in the system; a set of course elements; support of the Russian language; modularity of the course; the possibility of organizing a score-rating system; the use of the system in blended learning. But the problem was to accurately assess the progress of the students.
We would like to share our experience of ?Evaluation system? development in LMS Moodle. The result of the work of each learner with a distance course is to obtain a final grade for the interactive tasks performed during the course.Therefore, it is necessary to set up a gradebook in accordance with the amount of points scored by learners in all control points of the educational process, not only in each semester, but also for the entire course as a whole. This paper presents the new approach to assessing students? progress and fulfillment of tasks by means of an electronic gradebook in LMS Moodle in compliance with the point-rating system according to Bologna Declaration requirements.
