Lots of employers expect from their employees, apart from professional competences, a team work ability and ability to effectively implement team projects. However, few high schools and faculties in their curricula provide students with knowledge on teamwork, and therefore, graduates do not have appropriate competences in this area. In the course of studies, students usually learn about advanced IT tools for specialized applications, but they are rarely taught how to use groupware.
As a part of the course on Information Technology at the Faculty of Production and Power Engineering of the University of Agriculture in Krakow, classes on team work have been conducted for several years. The article presents an analysis of didactic classes using this type of software carried out in 2015-2018. Differences in the work performed in individual fields of study prove that graduates of technical schools (technicians) are better prepared for teamwork than people finishing general schools (high school). The tasks are carried out by first-year students (first semester), so team members primarily use their skills acquired in high school or outside the school. The introduction of groupware to the study curricula seems to be necessary in modern education. The introduction of the Polish qualification?s framework forces the graduates to obtain social competences covering cooperation in the group. Consequently, students carry out team projects, but such work cannot be effective without the use of modern information and communication technologies. |
