Ketoprofen is well-known drug due to anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic properties, and is widely used in the treatment of various acute and chronic inflammatory diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis as well as menstrual abdominal cramps. Its therapeutic benefits in the prevention of various cancers including colorectal and lung cancers as well as in the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer?s disease, Parkinson?s disease have been established. The drug is currently available as: capsule, tablet, solution, injectable solution, suppository, and topical gel formulations. However, this drug is photolabile, and has serious side-effects.
The novel mechanochemistry approach for the solubility and efficacy improvement of ketoprofen is described in this paper. The benefits of the methodology are the decreasing of ulcerogenic effects and the increasing of bioavailability and effectivity of the drug. |
