Magnesium potassium phosphate cement (MKPC) is a chemically bonded cementitious binder prepared by mixing dead burned magnesia powder with KH2PO4 and water. Comparing with conventional Portland cements, MKPCs exhibit some advantageous parameters as low dry shrinkage and high early compressive strengths that predestine them mainly for rapid repair of infrastructure. To reduce the heat evolution and cost related to the use of this type of cement, MKPC was blended with 30-50 % by mass of biomass ash. Dead burned magnesia and biomass ash were first analysed in terms of their chemical composition and basic physical properties. For hardened MKPC pastes with biomass ash dosage, mechanical and structural properties were assessed. These test included experimental assessment of specific density, bulk density, total open porosity, mercury pore size distribution, compressive strength, flexural strength, and dynamic Young?s modulus. The obtained results indicated the potential of developed materials to be considered as environmentally friendly cements for use in construction industry, particularly in repair applications.
