The onshore field X is located in the Getic Basin of Romania, 100 km far from Bucharest. This 15km by 2km field was discovered by exploration department in the 1951 year. Following drilling of down-dip appraisal wells from 1951-1952, this field was established as one of the largest oil field in the Getic Basin, with more than 250 wells drilled. Based on the oil production, an Integrated Reservoir Study have been developed in 2019, in order to find new development opportunities for remaining oil in place.
The wells planned in the northern part of the blocks come up as per prognosis and where successfully completed. During the development plan the wells were planned to be drilled in this monocline structure, with dip inclination 6-8 degree, and the main trap was found it in the north part of the field.
The major deltaic progradation in this area is believed to be deposited during the Middle-Late Miocene on lower shoreface deposition environment. The pinching out to the west helped the geologist to avoid future unhappy situation.
Lack of 3D seismic and existence only of 2D seismic profiles (available only 9 prospects oriented N-S) in this area makes seismic interpretation difficult. With poor seismic image it was a challenge to the team to optimize the trajectories of the wells and to estimate the best area for development. The teams? initiative of manual mapping, revising the detail structure correlation and understanding the depositional environment helped in optimizing the 3D model and later to identify the better area for new development wells.
