In this work, novel sorption material based on cellulose and polyvinyl alcohol cross-linked by calcium ions is obtained. In order to increase the oil capacity of the sorbent, the mineral glauconite, which has a natural sorption capacity concerning oil, was introduced into the cross-linked polymer matrix. The structure of the obtained polymer sorbent was studied: the method of infrared spectroscopy was used to study the effect of calcium chloride on the cross-linking of polymer components, optical microscopy was used to study the surface morphology of the sorbent. Calcium chloride was used as the crosslinking agent, which provides the formation of salt bridges with functional groups of carboxymethyl cellulose and polyvinyl alcohol. The cross-linked matrix has improved properties: increased oil capacity and floatation time. Thus, with the addition of calcium chloride at a concentration of 0.5 wt.%, the sorption capacity increases to 9 g/g. When calcium chloride is added, an increase in the floatation time of the matrix is also observed, in its absence the polymer sorbent completely sinks for 20 minutes.
