The objective of the present study was to evaluate by means of chemical analyses the quality of water collected from fish pond Tataru, Calarasi County. The water samples were collected during May 2017 from five sampling points (A, B, C, D, E) from three depths (surface layer, half of maximum depth, maximum depth). The subjected parameters were pH, electrical conductivity (EC), total hardness (TH), chemical oxygen demand (COD), nitrate nitrogen N-NO3-, nitrite nitrogen N-NO2-, ammonium nitrogen N-NH4+, phosphate phosphorus P-PO43- and some metals (Al, Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Hg, Li, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Se, Tl, Zn). According to limits imposed by Order 161/2006, water collected from fish pond Tataru corresponds to first quality class on the basis of N-NO3- and N-NH4+ levels, to second quality class related to COD and N-NO2- levels and to fifth quality class on the basis of high P-PO43- concentrations. The levels of Al, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Hg, Mo, Pb, Se, Tl and Zn were below detection limit associated with ICP-MS means. The other metals (Ba, Li, Mn and Ni) were found in detectable levels which allow associating the fish pond water to first class quality for surface waters.
