Silver and gold nanoparticles have unique antimicrobial and antifungal properties that make them excellent candidates for applications in nanomedicine, tissue engineering and bio-imaging. Green synthesis of metallic nanoparticles is preferred over conventional chemical routes because is eco-friendly, requires no reducing agents and no toxic chemicals result. In the present research study, one-pot green synthesis of noble metallic nanoparticles, namely silver (AgNPs) and gold (AuNPs) nanoparticles, from aqueous extracts of two different Kohlrabi (Brassica oleracea) species (pale ? green and purple) has been reported. The formation of both AgNPs and AuNPs is first visually observed by the change in color of the solutions and then confirmed by recording the UV ? Vis spectra. FTIR spectra confirmed that the phytocomponents present in Kohlrabi leaves are responsible for the green synthesis and stability of the noble metallic nanoparticles and dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurements were also recorded. The aqueous extracts prepared from pale ? green and purple Kohlrabi were analyzed by qualitative and quantitative screening of phytochemicals using well-established analytical methods. Antioxidant activity was determined using 2,2 ? diphenyl ? 1 ? picryl ? hydrazyl ? hydrate stable free radical (DPPH) method and the results clearly showed an increase for the colloidal nanosuspensions.
