The assessment of underground behaviour below buildings will become more and more relevant because of increasing awareness to energy efficiency and renewable energy topics. Real information on ground temperatures is important for many thermal calculations, which include, among others, the calculation of heat losses of buildings to the ground or the design of subsoil heat exchanger. This paper presents the results of six-year period in situ experiment designed to monitor the ground temperature profile below a passive building in Czech Republic, in order to assist the evaluation and exploitation of ground energy potential. Experimental measurements of the ground temperatures were performed outside and below the insulated foundation (at various depths and locations) of a passive building. For this purpose a six-year data set from 2013 to 2018 of ambient air and ground temperature records was elaborated. Temperatures analyzed are of ambient air, subsurface ground outside the building at depths of 0.2 m and 1.0 m below a terrain, and subsurface ground below the building at depths of 0.7 m, 1.5 m, and 3.0 m (under floor of building). Average values for the considered six-year period are calculated and examined, as well as annual and monthly average values. The aim of the long-term research is to verify the influence of ambient air and insulated foundation of the passive building on the ground temperatures and its gradual changes by increasing the depth up to 3 m. Our results show that, ground temperatures below passive building have increased over 6 years gradually.
