The paper deals with the laboratory testing of the shear strength of the soil-geotextile interface. Two samples of soil were tested, i.e., coarse-grained poorly graded sand and fine poorly graded ash. The soils were reinforced using the Thrace WG80 black woven geotextile, which is suitable for road, railway, and geo-bag applications. The tests were executed using a large-size direct shear test apparatus. The shear strength of the interface was determined using the large-size direct shear test apparatus. The ground plan dimensions of the shear box were 300 x 300 mm. The height of the box was 200 mm. The tests were done for normal stresses up to 150 kPa. The geotextile was placed directly in the shear area. The results of tests showed significantly different behaviour of the geotextile in the samples tested. The black woven geotextile on the interface with the sandy sample causes an increase in the initial shear strength and a reduction in the angle of shear strength in the peak stress state. In the critical stress state, the reduction in the angle of shear strength was negligible. These effects were caused by wedging of grains that had sharp edges. The results of testing of the fine ash showed that the initial shear strength and the angle of shear strength of the reinforced and unreinforced sample are very similar to each other. The results were obtained in the peak as well as in the critical stress state. The ash tested had rounded grains. The results of tests showed that the interface?s shear strength between the soil and a black woven geotextile mostly depends on the shape and size of the grains
