The research is aimed to demonstrate the possibility to find the quantitative characteristics of the processes developing in the landscapes of the thermokarst plains with fluvial erosion, using a momentary set of landscape metrics without long repeated observations.
We examine a mathematical model of the morphological pattern of the thermokarst plains with fluvial erosion in the case of the asynchronous start developed in the framework of the mathematical morphology of landscapes. We have obtained empirical data of the model testing at 18 key sites located in different natural environments. These data confirm the model - the distributions of the areas of lakes and khasyreis correspond to the theoretical ones.
The mathematical analysis of the model gives us the formula for estimating the desired dynamic parameter (the ratio of the average growth rate of the number of thermokarst depressions per unit area to the average growth rate of the size of lakes) by measuring primary data, such as lake area percentage, average khasyrei area, the minimal area of the thermokarst lakes, from single space imagery. The desired dynamic parameter is on the left in the resulting expression. At the same time, all variables on the right side, such as lake percentage, the average khasyrei area, the average density of the stream sources, the minimum area of a thermokarst lake, comes from a direct measurement on single satellite imagery. A pilot calculation of this dynamic parameter is done for ten key sites using landscape metrics for a single time observation.
Thus, we show the possibility to estimate the quantitative characteristics of the processes in the thermokarst plains with fluvial erosion using the momentary set of landscape metrics.
