The main cut-off parameter that determines the quality of iron ore resources and reserves is Fe cut-off grade. We often use the content of iron associated with magnetite for BIF deposits. The purpose of the study is to define the method of optimal values selecting for Fe cut-off grade. This value for resources calculation should be acceptable and effective, both for the owner of the subsoil resources, and for mining enterprises.
It is proposed a method for choosing the optimum values of cut-off grade Fe in evaluation of BIF deposits on the example one of the West Azov deposits. The method is based on use of block modeling tools as the most effective way of resources calculating that allows quickly get multivariate calculations of quantity and quality of resources with various cut-off grade Fe values.
The main ways of cut-off grade determination can be: 1) empirical data among iron ore deposits of one specific geological and technological type, which are effectively developed; 2) direct calculation of parameters; 3) initial technical and technological data of mining enterprises that exploits deposit.
Dynamics of reserves? quantity and quality have analyzed depending on changes in cut-off grade, and fluctuations in average grade have been taken into account. It is defined the area with the largest dynamics of changes in resources quantity with an increase in Fe content within 12-18%. Beyond this interval fluctuations of resources quantity depending on cut-off grade changes are minimal. The optimal values of cut-off grade of Fe associated with magnetite within 12-14 % are substantiated using geostatistics and spatial modeling.
