RARE-EARTH ELEMENT CONCENTRATION CONDITIONS IN THE RARE-METAL DEPOSITS OF THE KARAKAMYS ORE DISTRICT

One of the promising areas of rare-metal mineralisation containing rare-earth elements is the Karakamys ore district located in the west Balkhash region, within the limits of the Chu-Ili ore belt. The area is under-researched in regard to rare-earth mineralisation. Within the ore district, there are three dozen known rare-metal objects with associated rare-earth mineralisation (Karakamys, Shakshagaily and others). The majority of objects are concentrated in east near-contact zone of the Kaib granitoid massif, in manifestations of tungsten, tin, bismuth. A brief geological description of rare-metal deposits is given to the rare-metal deposits of Karakamys, Shakshagaily and Vostochno-Kaibskoe. Analysed are thermodynamic conditions of deposition of ore minerals with rare-earth elements. The analysis of thermodynamic conditions at the Karakamys ore district deposits leads to the following conclusion: thermal non-equilibrium between ore-forming and ore-localising systems predetermines the course of development and intensity of ore formation process, reveals the mechanism of inclusion of rare-earth elements into the composition of ore mineral objects (cassiterite, scheelite, bismuth). The ore district has high prospects for rare-earth elements in rare-metal objects. Prospecting activities within the district should be carried out in a comprehensive manner. For a full assessment of the area, it is necessary to conduct scientific research in parallel with the search, which will increase the level of knowledge of both the area and individual objects and increase the reliability of the results.
