The drilling muds parameters are playing a major role in drilling technology and particularly in oil and gas drilling technology. At present those parameters are measured manually at long and irregular time intervals. In Satpajev university a general method of the existing manual measurements automatization has been worked. A number of patents on appliances for automatic continuous measuring the drilling mud funnel viscosity, density, jell stress and other parameters was obtained. Engineering development on creating pilot specimen is underway. Particularly important are the driling mud rheological parameters ? its plastic viscosity PV and the yield point YP. They are determined by means of viscometers representing a complex in their design and application (under field conditions particularly) facilities. Published are attempts of determining the PV and YP, basing on the very simple and popular measurements of funnel viscosity. In Satpajev university research in that direction is also underway and unsophisticated and original method is worked out. Laboratory tests in comparison with popular viscometers have been carried through. Similar tests have been performed also under industrial conditions of oil drilling. A rather close matching was observed. The method was found suitable for its further development by way of transition in the framework of above mentioned general method to the automatic continuous measurements. The algorithm and the basic scheme of the corresponding automatic appliance as well as its performance are under consideration in this paper.
