The article presents a novel research project aimed at analysis of historical processes at
memorable places of the Tambov region associated with prominent Russian
personalities using original technologies for analysis, data processing and creation of
virtual reconstructions of cultural and historical heritage. It includes: development of the
technology for creating 3D models of cultural heritage objects for virtual reconstruction
of historically significant territories; development of the technology for analysis of
historical processes based on the methods of system and retrospective analysis,
mathematical modeling, and fuzzy set theory; development of the technology for
creating an information Internet resource for providing access to information about the
objects of cultural and historical heritage based on the methods of 3D modeling of
geographically distributed objects; analysis of historical processes of memorable places
of the Tambov region connected with famous Russian public figures. The authors have
proposed a formalized description of a virtual space model, which includes a data set
about a historically significant territory (a memorable place) presented in the form of a
graph structure of frames. Implementation of a virtual space in the form of a virtual
museum is carried out using an open-source software platform Open Simulator, which
is a server platform for 3D virtual worlds. Visualization of the museum is available to
all Internet users. The use of a three-dimensional environment for implementation of the
virtual museum is attractive to users of the system due to the fact that their own
personality is represented as an avatar that can freely move within a virtual world and
study it from any point.
