The research papers for the present study were carried out in the 2018-2019 period in the river basin of the Muscel stream, a tributary of the Dambovita river, in Romania, using the empirical method of weighted overlay of thematic maps and GIS, resulting the hazard maps considering landslides which occurred on the scale of the studied drainage area. For the application of the research method, the necessary data regarding the digital terrain model, the land cover with vegetation and the degree of urbanization, were downloaded from the USGS website (United States Geological Survey) and from the INIS Geoportal of Romania, data which were introduced and processed in the ArcMap application.
Using ArcMap software, by applying the method of weighted overlay of thematic maps regarding the risk of landslides, were shown the areas vulnerable to mass movements, classified into three risk classes, with low susceptibility, medium susceptibility and high susceptibility of landslides, depending on the values of the slopes in the analyzed territory of Muscel watershed. In this regard, there was a probability of 21.35% that landslides occur on the territory of the analyzed drainage area, and from the overlapping of thematic maps, judging the hazard of mass wasting, it can be seen that the two geological layers coincide, so we can say that the method used has favorable results in determining areas with vulnerability to landslides in a river basin. The obtained results show that as the degree of urbanization and the degree of modernization of the road network increases, the vulnerability to landslides on the scale of the river basin also increases, by up to 72.92%.
So at the scale of the Muscel hydrographic basin, a right tributary of the Dambovita river, the landslides produced in the last period of time, were influenced both by natural factors and especially by anthropogenic factors, namely by the uncontrolled development of urbanization, reflected by the increase of the built gray space to the detriment of the green space.
