This paper deals with a case study from Central European mountain Acidophilous spruce forests below the alpine tree line in the Hruby Jesenik Mountains (Czech Republic). These forest ecosystems are protected in the frame of the Natura 2000 European system. Maintaining of the defined forest habitat character, especially for certain types of forests historically affected by humans, is there the main target of forest management strategy. The results of this study suggest that research on forest management history can be consider as a decision-support tool for conservation management strategies for mountain forest habitats in protected areas.
