Taxus baccata L., commonly known as yew, English yew or, European yew, is an evergreen tree or shrub and it is considered to be one of the most distinguished monumental trees identified in the world.

The field research has revealed six monumental common yew trees and a stand of yew in Experimental Base Vidra - in which there are a few copies of monumental trees.
The six monumental trees has been recorded: two of them in Banat (Counties Arad and Cara? Severin), one in Transylvania (County Mure?), one in Maramure? and two in Moldova. They were detected in the gardens and parks and in the courtyard of hospitals and museums, with an age of 100 - 200 years, the tallest having a height of 17,5m and the thickest with a diameter of 1,14m.
In the east part of the country, in Vidra Experimental Base (EB) (Vrancea County), in UP IV Vizantea, a remarkable stand of common yew has been detected, in which has been recorded 13 monumental yew trees with the height ranged from 15m to 22m.
All of these monumental trees must be protected and maintained to the future for the benefits of biological diversity.
