Forestry vehicles meet different kinds of soil resistance when operating on forest soils, which include the rolling resistance, as well as the resistance to vehicles turning. The purpose of proposed study is to present dependencies for estimating the soils resistance to forestry vehicles? turning, based on solution of theoretical problem of indenter pressing into a soil massif of unlimited thickness of the deformable layer. The study bases on theoretical methods of terramechanics, methods of computational experiment and calculated data processing. The study focuses on interaction of wheeled, bogie-tracked and tracked forestry vehicles maneuvering on forest soils of a low (up to 0.04 MPa) and medium (up to 0.1 MPa) bearing capacity. Basing on the calculated data processing, the study establishes a nonlinear relationship between the turning resistance and the turning angle. The study establishes that the ratio of the turning resistance to the vehicle normal load (coefficient of turning resistance) on a forest soil of a low bearing capacity reaches 0.36 for bogie-tracked vehicles; for tracked vehicles the ratio reaches 0.51, while for wheeled movers the ratio is within 0.2 at the turning angle within 30o. The study establishes that the ratio of the turning resistance to the vehicle normal load on a forest soil of a medium bearing capacity reaches 0.21 for bogie-tracked vehicles; for tracked movers the ratio reaches 0.26, while for the wheeled movers the ratio is within 0.16 at the turning angle within 30o. The estimations are proposed to be used in energy consumption of timber harvesting and skidding considerations and in modelling cross-country ability of forestry vehicles.
