The article presents a detailed study of the close relationship between the content of total dissolved iron (Fetotal), Fe2+, Fe3+ on the one hand and physical and chemical parameters (Eh, pH, salinity (S), water temperature, electrical conductivity (Cond), the content of molecular oxygen and its saturation percentage in the section "Don River - Sea of Azov" on the other under various weather conditions. Correlation coefficients, as a quantitative measure of the tightness of the connection, varied over a wide range. The qualitative characteristic of the tightness of the relationship between indicators varied from weak to high. It is established that during relative calm, between such pairs of indicators as Fetotal ? Eh and Fetotal ? pH, there was a direct moderate and noticeable connection, which was broken during windy weather and became backward weak. For duets of indicators Fetotal ? S, Fetotal ? ? °? and Fetotal - Cond., there was an inverse high and noticeable relationship. The paradox was that during stormy weather, the correlation coefficients between the pairs of indicators described above significantly decreased, sometimes changing signs and the tightness of the connection became weak or moderate. During the calm period, the content of Fe2+ and Fe3+ showed a close inverse linear relationship with salinity, which is consistent with the dependencies obtained for the Fetotal - S pair. At the same time, a significantly closer relationship was found for the pair Fe+3 ? S. In calm weather, the connections between Fe2+ ? Eh, pH and Fe3+ ? Eh, pH were positive linear and characterized from weak to noticeable. It is interesting, the Fe2+ - O2 indicators, as well as Fe2+ - O2 and Fe3+ - O2, have a weak connection or lack of it. The closeness of the relations increased slightly to moderate between the indicators Fetotal ? O2, %. For other dependencies of Fe2+ and Fe3+ content with oxygen saturation (%), the tightness of the bond was weak or absent. The distribution, content levels, and behavior of Fetotal, Fe2+, and Fe3+ in the water column are influenced by the physical and chemical environment, location of sampling stations in certain areas of the water area, and weather conditions. A hypothesis is proposed that the dominant reason for the violation of the close relationship between the iron content and physical and chemical indicators during stormy weather is the destruction of the quasi-equilibrium state in the system "suspended matter - water - bottom sediments", which developed during a relative calm. This is due to increased mixing of water masses, stirring up of the upper layer of bottom sediments and the destruction of organomineral suspensions under the influence of wind - induced wind surges phenomena.
