The region of Kardzhali is earthquake prone to various local and near/trans border seismic impacts. That is why their combined analysis is of interest to be studied.
The 3 most significant seismic events that struck this region in the last 15 years are considered and discussed. That is: the 2006, M=4.5 local one; the 2014, M=6.9 transborder and the 2019, M=3.6 local one. The real dynamic impact by these events transformed into the earthquake engineering characteristics they produced is evaluated.
Data accumulated in the archives of the NIGGG-BAS from earthquake events recorded during the years by the digital stations of the National Strong Ground Motion Network of Bulgaria is used as major background in the analysis process. Thus selected records of the above mentioned events are put through homogeneous data processing in the time and frequency domain. Results are outlined in suitable numerical and graphic output. Parameters of interest to researchers, engineers and disaster prevention authorities are being extracted and subjected to analysis. Assessment of the compared spectral diversity of these seismic impacts is also presented.
The array of seismic records produced of close and distant earthquake sources play a major role in generation of an adequate design accelerograms/spectra applied in earthquake resistant design of building/engineering structures. Properly selected, analyzed and assessed information from SGM monitoring data supports the various design/verification procedures to meet the requirements of Eurocode-8.
