Drought is a phenomenon with a possible negative effect on agroecosystems. It can cause significant impact and damages on crop, when the water balance is seriously affected. But additional harmful effects can be observed also on the whole agroecosystem. This is connected to the land surface and vadose zone, to the physical and chemical properties of soil and water; to the adjacent organisms, etc. To prevent and mitigate the possible dangerous effects of importance is best to know all the specifics of the drought phenomenon and connected interrelations with the system biotopes ? biocenosis. On this basis best measures and practices can be appropriately selected. Part of the process is also to consider all the available resources and to have a view about the future perspective. This is connected to account both local specifics and resources, but also to consider future trends in the area to obtain best and sustainable results in time.
In Bulgaria such problems are considered on various levels. This material is focused on the adopted approaches with respect to the particular droughts specifics. For the purpose main measures and practices in the country are briefly . A brief analysis connected to the inner and outer drivers and pressures is also presented. Its aim is to clarify the possibility of appropriate and long term decisions obtaining. Connecting is presented also an adapted agroecosystems drivers-pressures-state-impact-response (DPSIR) frame which is appropriate for implementation in the process of agroecosystems management and decision making. Presented issues are relevant in cases of droughts and related risks examination in the process of better understanding and land use systems and climate and climate change conditions integration.
