Urban noise is affecting an increasing number of people and this is why it is becoming a major environmental issue, being a known fact that it affects all human activities and constitutes a stress factor with negative effects on health.
It can affect the population both physiologically and psychologically, having an influence on the elementary activities such as sleep, rest, study and communication.
Noise in the environment - a harmful and unwanted sound from the outside - is spreading, both in duration and in geographical coverage, being associated with many human activities, but the noise produced by road traffic, in particular, represents a problem for the urban environment, because approximately 75% of Europe's population lives in cities, where the volume of road traffic is still increasing.
Sound absorbing systems and products are the basis solutions for already existing constructions. They make it possible to protect people from the adverse effects of noise and improve the quality of life. Efficient and properly installed insulation systems protect the environment against noise
The current paper presents the effects produced by external noise on the inhabitants of a house before and after performing soundproofing works. There are also elements of sound insulation that can be used in existing buildings without sound protection elements (single casting concrete constructions). Determinations are analysed on frequency bands to identify the optimum materials for reducing noise level in residential buildings.
