The relationships of environmental and economic costs during marine dredging and the volume of transported soil for water areas of Russia?s High North and the Arctic region and the other, more southern, seas of the Russian Federation are identified and analyzed. The analysis was carried out using a representative material of more than 300 dredging projects from the database of the St. Petersburg environmental and design company Eco-Express Service LLC. As a result of the work carried out, it was revealed that the total environmental and economic costs are directly dependent on the total volume of transported soil ? both for water areas of North and Arctic and the other seas of the Russian Federation. Whereas relative environmental and economic costs of dredging (per one volume unit of transported soil) are almost independent of the total transported soil volume in its entire studied range. However, the relative environmental and economic costs for dredging in the Russia?s High North and the Arctic region are 1.6 times higher than the rest of Russian seas. The revealed regularities can be used in Maritime Spatial Planning for the Arctic and North water areas. The development and testing of a quantitative analytical methods system allow to solve problems of not only environmental assessment of designed hydraulic structures, but also the best possible distribution of various types of marine use in space and time.
