The problem of increasing the energy efficiency of the national economy is the most important for countries with developing economies. For example, in the Republic of Ecuador (RE), the average GDP growth rate was 5.73% over 2010-2019. This requires high-quality development of the energy sector to ensure sustainable development of the national economy.
The power generation structure in RE is not optimal because the share of oil is 87%, while the share of hydro resources is 6%. For RE, this reduces the efficiency of electricity generation and the profitability of oil sales. RE has a significant potential for hydropower and other renewable energy sources, which should be included in the structure of electricity production, which ensures an increase in economic, environmental and social efficiency. Structural changes in power generation are associated with the justification and implementation of large-scale energy efficiency projects. The complexity of their substantiation is associated with the problems of predicting macro parameters, taking into account the specifics of a developing economy, long-term planning of the country's socio-economic development, the development of measures for state support for infrastructure, risk assessment and others. The most important qualitative indicator of the use of energy resources in the economy is energy efficiency. In fact, energy efficiency is expressed in the consumption of less energy resources to maintain the same level of energy supply for production, buildings or technological processes. |
