The paper deals with numerical analysis of the stability of an embankment reinforced using a geogrid. The analysis is mainly focused on the impact of the Rinter parameter, which represents the ratio of the soil-geogrid interface shear strength to the shear strength of the soil, on the deformations, and the global stability of the embankment. The properties of the soil-geogrid interface were measured using a modified large size direct shear test apparatus. The biaxial geogrid made of polypropylene with a tensile strength of 30 kN.m-1 was used as the reinforcement. The material tested was sandy gravel well graded. The tests showed that the soil-geogrid interface shear strength is equal to about 86 % of the shear strength of the original soil, which corresponds to the value of the Rinter parameter at the value of 0.86. The numerical analysis was done using Plaxis geotechnical software. Two basic models of the embankment were taken into account in the study, i.e., the embankment with slopes and embankment supported by reinforced retaining walls made of concrete blocks. The analysis was made in a form of a parametric study. The different values of the Rinter parameter within the range of 0.7 - 1.0 were taken into account. The measured values of the Rinter parameter were included in the study. The results of the analysis showed that the modelling of the interface between geogrid and soils could have a significant impact on horizontal deformations, bulging of the embankment, as well as the settlement of the embankment.
