Romanian seismicity, is characterized by a moderate rate of tectonic origin earthquakes, with an increase in density and higher magnitudes, within the Vrancea region, located at the South-Eastern Carpathians bend, at the conjunction of three major tectonic units: East European Plate, Intra-Alpine Plate and Moesian Plate. First-motion focal mechanism solutions are a good proxy for the initial rupture and they provide important additional information on the source mechanism. The data compiled in the present paper provides earthquake parameters for individual events of interest to contribute, as a valuable source of information, for further studies as seismotectonic investigations and stress distribution maps. We calculated the focal mechanisms using as a reference the phase pickings reported in the Romplus Catalogue, for intermediate depth earthquakes recorded in Vrancea region during 2015 – 2021. To determine fault planes solutions was implemented the FPFIT code [1] (code that generates parameters: strike, dip, rake, etc.) in ANTELOPE 5.6, software developed by Kinemetrics. This code (FPL) uses the classic criteria to determine the focal mechanisms, namely P wave polarities, systematic tests of all possible fault plane solutions, so will validate only those solutions who met the required criteria.
Estimating the near-real-time fault planes solutions using dedicated programs, a few minutes after the event occurrence is done by generating locations of the seismic events with magnitude ML?3.5 for seismic events occurred at intermediate depths (H>60 km). |
