The article is devoted to the problem of cleaning and disposal of waste from mining enterprises of the Russian Federation, using the example of the production of alumina (aluminum oxide).
The problem associated with the efficient use of industrial waste as sorbents for the purification of wastewater from mining enterprises is considered. A method is proposed that meets the requirements of the purification efficiency in terms of environmental and economic parameters.
The substantiation and proof of the expediency of using belite sludge, which is a waste in the production of alumina, is given. The possibility of using belite sludge as sorbents for the purification of wastewater from mining enterprises has been investigated.
The article presents the results of the main technological processes analysis at an enterprise for the production of alumina. The work of the alumina shop main sections is considered: the section for the charge preparation; batch sintering area; cake leaching section; section for aluminate solutions decomposition; aluminum hydroxide calcination area.
The method of wastewater treatment using belite sludge is illustrated by an example. It is noted that the dicalcium silicate of the sludge, entering into ion exchange reactions with solutions of heavy metals ions, forms slightly soluble silicates of these metals, removing them from the solution and accumulating in the solid phase - in the composition of the sorbent.
The results obtained during the experiment showed a high efficiency of using belite sludge as a sorbent. So, the efficiency of water purification from copper and nickel ions was 97%.
