The topic is up-to-date, related to the full use of organic materials in crop production and livestock breeding. This is part of the goals of the circular economy and is successfully linked to the need to maintain a positive balance of soil organic matter in agricultural lands. The problem is an important issue for sustainable agriculture on arable land but has a different meaning in different soil types. Organic fertilization is an effective method for maintaining soil fertility.
Two soil types were used - Luvisols and Fluvisols. The composts applied to them have an application gradient (5, 10 and 15%). Traditional manure was used in Luvisols, and granular compost was applied in Fluvisols. The methodology includes a technological stage composting period over 30 days and vegetation experiment with test culture - lettuce. The following physicochemical parameters in soils and composts were reported: electrical conductivity; sorption capacity, actual, exchange and total acidity, basic cations, saturation with bases and organic matter content. The changes in the content and composition of soil organic matter in two soil types were monitored before composting period. As part of the experiment were establish the connection between changes in content and composition of soil organic matter, main nutrients before and after vegetation and lettuce yield.
The experiment is indicative of the development of good agricultural practice because both tested scenarios demonstrated strategically advantages and disadvantages. In the first case, Luvisols and traditional mature are a suitable combination of lightly acid soil with alkalic organic fertilizer, they fixed the organic carbon, but the soil nitrogen isn't enough in post vegetation period. In the second case, Fluvisols and granulated mature are the combinations of neutral pH soil with slightly acid granular compost. That scenario has a positive effect on the nitrogen nutrition of plants, don't fix organic carbon very well. These raises working hypotheses to improve the nitrogen supply in the first case and increase the organic carbon in the second case.
