Solutions to the environmental problems associated with the burning of coal in power plants are in poor condition. One of the main problems is the continuous growth and accumulation of ash and slag waste (ASW). Ash and slag waste is a major source of raw materials for various industries. However, the degree of use of ash and slag waste at Russian thermal power plants does not exceed 2 million tons / year, with an annual output of 25-28 million tons. Modern methods of enrichment and processing allow the use of ash and slag waste up to 100 %. With the full use of ash and slag waste for the production of industrial products, the risks associated with environmental pollution are reduced both directly by the dumps themselves, and by reducing the need for the extraction of natural materials (sand, gravel, limestone). The elimination of ash dumps is a complex intersectoral problem, in which both ash producers and potential consumers of the products produced from it should take part. To determine the possible applications of specific ash and the technology for processing them into useful products, it is necessary to conduct research not only on their chemical composition, but also on the phase-mineralogical composition, as well as research and development on the development of appropriate technologies for the production and use of the obtained useful products.
