In this study, variations in the paleoecological conditions of Western Siberia were analyzed. For the paleoecological studies, a core of bottom sediments, 51 cm long, was taken from an unnamed lake located in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. A total of 26 samples from the core were examined in detail. As a result, 30 cladoceran taxa were registered. Among them, Bosmina (Eubosmina) longispina was dominant throughout the core. The subdominant species were Alonella nana and Chydorus cf. sphaericus from the family Chydoridae. Interestingly, several species that are rarely found in this Russian region were identified in the core: Rhynchotalona latens, Drepanothrix dentata, and Ophryoxus gracilis. The cladoceran planktonic/littoral ratio was determined using the sediment record of the studied lake to reconstruct the fluctuations in its level. A sharp decrease in the abundance of cladocerans was noticed in the 40-cm zone of the core. The values of the Shannon–Wiener diversity index varied between 1.83 and 2.52, thereby characterizing the studied lake as mesosaprobic. The analysis of subfossil cladocerans was supported by the Russian Science Foundation (project no. 20-17-00135). The statistical analysis was funded by the subsidy allocated to Kazan Federal University for state assignment #671-2020-0049 in the sphere of scientific activities, as well as by the Kazan Federal University Strategic Academic Leadership Program.
