The article presents the data obtained by the authors during the expedition research in the largest bay of the Azov Sea - the Taganrog Bay. Its characteristic feature is shallowness, flowing due to water exchange with the Don, small rivers, and the development of surge phenomena. The ecosystem of the bay has been experiencing strong anthropogenic pressure for several decades. The authors analyzed the behavior and distribution of mercury dissolved and suspended forms in the surface and bottom layers of water, depending on the physical and chemical parameters. On the one hand, the correlation coefficients were calculated between the metal content, and on the other, between the oxygen concentration, temperature, and values of salinity, redox potential, and hydrogen index. It is noted that the relations tightness is significantly affected by the season of the year and the hydrometeorological situation. For example, there is a strong correlation between the mercury dissolved form and the pH in the upper water layer for the summer period, characterized by intensive mixing of water masses. In the autumn, during the calm weather, a negative average dependence was observed. Thus, the correlation dependence can vary from strongly positive to medium negative during intensive mixing of water masses and no wind. The authors have calculated the water migration coefficients. It is determined that higher values are typical for the western region of the bay, but in general, the metal is characterized by weak geochemical mobility. The study showed that during intensive mixing of the water mass, the mercury remobilization occurs under the influence of a change in hydrological and physicochemical conditions at the water-bottom sediments interface.
