The work is devoted to the assessment of the natural protection of groundwater in the Ternopil oblast (Ukraine). The evaluation is based on the parametric method of V. M. Holdberh. The characteristics of the geological structure of the aeration zone and aquifers are given. The areas of the greatest influence of karst on the protection of aquifers are determined. The stratigraphic confinedness of water intakes and large deposits of groundwater is described for further analysis of their protection.
Since more than 50% of the study area is occupied by areas of various stages of the karstification, a method is proposed to take into account their impact on the protection of aquifers. For this, according to the percentage of manifestation of various stages of karst formation, the study area is divided into regions. Using the average filtration factors for each stage of the karstification, the time of entry of the pollutant into the aquifer is calculated. Average protection is calculated for each well, including the percentage of occurrence of each type of karst and undisturbed area.
By processing the primary documentation of Ternopilvodproekt, LLC the protection of the main aquifers used by enterprises and private households for drinking water supply was determined. The protection of aquifers opened by wells in the territory of district centers has been assessed. The location of the main pollutants of aquifers such as large landfills, treatment facilities, as well as water intakes of centralized drinking water supply is superimposed on the protection map. The objects that are potential pollutants of aquifers and for which an urgent assessment of protection using modeling is required are identified.
