The global problems of the functioning of the economy, industry and energy are among the most important areas of scientific interest and knowledge. Renewable energy sources play a significant role in the global energy sector. The potential applications of these sources are almost limitless, which makes it possible to expand the list of energy resources used. With the economic growth of the forest, woodworking and pulp and paper industries, waste from the wood used in processing-bark and branches, wood chips, scraps, sawdust, etc., which can partially replace primary fuel and energy resources, also increases. The relevance of wood waste disposal is also due to the high risk of fire hazard in the places of their storage. Currently, it is recognized all over the world that the production of electricity from woodworking waste is becoming a serious competitor to traditional fuels. Moreover, the emergence of modern technologies for processing wood waste has allowed woodworking enterprises to transfer the process of recycling the resulting waste from the sphere of expenses to income.
The paper evaluates the use of waste from the timber industry in the production of high-quality solid fuel in the form of pellets. The economic efficiency of the introduction of the technology for the production of wood pellets according to the EU standard EN 14961-2 is justified. The economic feasibility of small business development in the field of wood waste utilization through the production of fuel pellets is argued.
