Investigation object: The paper describes the influence of the use of highly effective superplasticizer on the conductivity of cement paste. The paper shows the possibility of improvement the electrical and technological properties of electrically conductive concrete by modifying them with polycarboxylate superplasticizers. Electrically conductive concretes can be used to obtain resistive heaters for snow and ice melting, which are more ecological, then the use of chemical reagents, traditionally used for deicing. The main topic of the paper are the electrical properties of electrically conductive composites based on cement composite binder. The composite material consisted of Portland cement, superplasticizer and carbon black which were homogenized in a ball mill. The aim of the study was to find out the effect of the dosage of polycarboxylate-based superplasticizer on electrical conductivity of cement-based material. The Portland cement CEM I 42,5 N, polycarboxylate-based superplasticizer BASF Melflux 5581 F and carbon black were used to obtain composite binder. The results were obtained by the measurement of electrical resistivity by use of multimeter of the samples integrated with brass plates. The electrical conductivity measurement of the samples was based on geometrical parameters of the samples and the measured resistivity. The obtained data demonstrate the positive effect of the increasement of the superplasticizer dosage on the electrical conductivity of the cement paste. The experiment shows that the increase of the dosage of superplasticizer by 2 times causes significantly the decrease of the electrical resistivity of the samples with improvement of rheological properties of the mortar. The obtained mortar had self-compacting properties. The effect can be obtained due to the increasement of the homogeneity of the cement-filler system. The results of the work show the ability to obtain self-compacting electrically conductive mortars, widening the possibility of practical application of such materials. The results show the possibility of obtaining volumetric resistive heaters made from electrically conductive concretes, having exploitational properties, sufficient for outdoor use. The development of the technology can lead to ecological benefits due to the possibility to abandon the use of chemical reagents for de-icing.
