ANALYSIS OF BLAST-INDUCED VIBRATIONS AT A LIMESTONE QUARRY

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2005, F. Cihangir, A. Kesimal, B. Ercikdi, O. Durmus)

General environmental problems generated during blast activities in open pit mining are ground vibrations, air pressure, fly rock, dust and poisonous gases and fumes. In some cases, these problems can be the source of some continual disagreements (fear, right and unrighteous complaints, etc.) on inhabitants living close to a blast-based production in a quarry as well as damage on the buildings situated nearby. In this study, the ground vibrations produced by blasting operations performed at a limestone quarry were...

BIOLOGIC RECULTIVATION OF CIRESATA-ROMANIA DEPOSITION

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2005, E. Dunca, B. Berov, I. Dumitrescu)

This study analyzes the possibilities of anchorage and reform of a sterile deposition resultant from copper mining activities from around the Brad-Romania mining area. Because this sterile deposition is out of service from about 8 years, the solutions we had to propose according to work of biologic recultivation must stabilized the sterile deposition. After consolidation the danger of rain and snow melting waters will diminish. The main purpose is to avert pollution of area environment factors and concurrently acc...

DETERMINATION OF MINERAL PROCESSING INDUCED ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2005, I. Kursun, G. Tuncer, K. Cinku)

People have always used metals and minerals and products made from or with minerals in a nearly infinite number of ways. With the increase in population and real per capita income, the demand for mineral commodities is likely to rise in the future.Mineral Processing in the mining industry can be defined as the economic recovery of a valuable commodity from a mineral deposit. Mineral processing operations produce significant amounts of solid and liquid wastes. As the quality of mineral deposits diminishes, raw mate...

DEVELOPMENT AN EXPERT SYSTEM IN WATER MANAGEMENT

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2005, C. Nitu, P. Eusebiu)

In this work the main goal is to design and develop a expert system, with special focus on water management and quality. It is remarkable the high quantity of information and knowledge patterns implicit in large databases coming from the monitoring of any system or dynamical environmental process. For instance, historical data collected about meteorological phenomena in a certain area, about the performance of a wastewater treatment plant, about characterizing environmental emergencies (toxic substances wasting). ...

METAL POLLUTION OF SOILS IN THE SW PART OF KOCANI VALLEY (R. MACEDONIA) RELATED WITH PB-ZN MINES ACTIVITIES

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2005, SERAFIMOVSKI, DOLENEC T., G. Tasev, M. Dolenec)

This paper presents the results from the study of heavy metals contamination of paddy soil of the Ko\vcani Field (Eastern Macedonia), an area with extensive agricultural production. The soil of the Ko\vcani Field is supposed to be polluted by heavy metals due to mining activities and acid mine drainage from Zletovo-Kratovo and Sasa-Toranica ore districts. This was supposed by the fact that acid mine drainage and direct input of Zletovo Pb-Zn mine effluents of pH 3.4 with mean Pb concentrations of 66 mg l-1, Zn at ...

The problems for the protection of the environment from various pollutants are considered worldwide as fundamental for mankind. A large number of people are nowadays exposed to the different pollutions in waste and potable water. The pollutions have a harmful effect on the biological system. Some regions in Bulgaria and Turkey have serious problems with water contaminated with metal ions. The heavy metals (Hg, As, Cd, Mn, etc.) have a harmful effect on human physiology and other biological system when they are fou...

REMOVAL OF CHROMIUM FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTION USING ACTIVATED CARBON

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2005, A. Gul, A. Dincer, R. Yavuz, N. Karatepe)

The aim of this investigation is to determine the adsorption behavior of chromium (VI) on Tuncbilek activated carbon sample. The effects of the Cr concentration (25-100 ppm), temperature (297-325 K) and pH (2.5-9.8) on adsorption were investigated systematically. It was found that the effectiveness sequence of the parameters was initial Cr(VI) concentration, temperature and pH. Increasing the pH from 2.5 to 9.8 causes a decrease in adsorption. But it is obvious that adsorption was increased by increasing the initi...

RESULTS OF APPLICATION OF SOME NON –TRADITIONAL RESTORATION METHODS ON NORTH BOHEMIAN MINES LOCATIONS

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2005, M. Rehor, T. Lang, V. Ondracek, H. Lorencova)

The North-Bohemian Basin area is known for its largest Czech brown coal deposit. About 50\% brown coal reserves have been exploited in the North-Bohemian Basin by the mining company of Severoceske doly, a.s. (North Bohemian Mines) today. The opencast mining of brown coal naturally led to vast landscape damages. Therefore reclamation work has acquired great significance. The specific feature of Severoceske doly, a.s. mining is the fact that the mining has been realized in two geologically absolutely different local...

SOURCE TO SINK RIVER POLLUTION ASSESSMENT IN NORTHERN BULGARIA: PRELIMINARY RESULTS ON CONTAMINANT DELIVERY IN THE LOWER DANUBE BASIN

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2005, P. Brewer, M. Nikolova, G. Bird, T. Kotsev, M. Macklin, M. Mollov, C. Swain)

Bulgaria occupies a unique position in south-east Europe in terms of river basin management and control because contamination from metal extraction and processing industries not only has a potential significant trans-border impact but also affects both the Mediterranean and Black Seas. However, to date, no whole basin source to sink study of metal contamination has yet been conducted in the country. This paper begins to address this issue by presenting preliminary results from a survey conducted in August 2004 of ...

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2005, A. Murariu, N. Costica, M. Costica, A. Stratu, C. Secu, A. Lupascu, I. Moglan)

During 2004, pluridisciplinary investigations have been devoted to the abiotic and biotic characteristics of the anthropized ecosystem developed in relation with the domestic litter hills at Tomesti, Iasi. Both abiotic (climate, soil, air) and biotic (talobyontes, chormobyontes, phytophagous invertebrata) parameters have been recorded. The results showed that the urban wastes deposit has a complex impact upon the environment: air pollution with odours and dust, soil pollution with heavy metals (Pb, Ni, Cr, Cd, Cu)...
