The Bolboci hydrotechnical arrangement was achieved in 1988 on the upper course of Ialomita river, in the complicated geological and tectonic conditions of Bucegi massif from the Oriental Carpathians. This occupies the tectonic syncline of Bucegi which is situated between Cheile Tatarului and Cheile Zanoagei, at south, resulted from the background deformations of precadomian crystalline and the deposition blanket being made from the succession of Dogger, Malm and Albian.
