APPLICATION OF REACH REGULATION AND LCA STANDARD TO THE COAL WASTE

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-29, Andrzej Harat, Agnieszka Klupa, Zdzislaw Adamczyk)

The application of REACH and LCA systems to the coal waste was presented in this paper. Recent years has brought a growth interest in environmental management systems, which could minimize the negative environmental impact of chemical substances. As a result of that process standards such as REACH and LCA have been developed. Both of those systems are based on different assumptions. LCA refers to the whole life cycle of particular product and in consequence is considered as so-called пїЅfrom cradle to graveпїЅ stu...

ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS OF THE LIQUIDATION OF COAL MINES

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-29, Andrzej Harat, Zdzislaw Adamczyk, Agnieszka Klupa)

The article presents practical problems related to mines liquidation. This process is the last stage of mining activity. As a result the reduce of negative environmental impact should be obtained. The aim of the study was to demonstrate the complexity of this investment process. The last mentioned is not limited to environmental problems and also applies to the economic and legal issues. There is no doubt that the activity of extracting minerals from deposits is a source of a whole series of adverse environmental ...

IRON SULPHIDE FROM TONSTEIN FROM 713 COAL SEAM OF JEJKOWICE TECTONIC TROUGH UPPER SILESIAN COAL BASIN (POLAND)

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Zdzislaw Adamczyk, Agnieszka Klupa, Andrzej Harat)

Tonsteins are rocks which, due to their origin, mineral make-up and structure, are valuable petrographic benchmarks in the monotonously formed Carbon coal-bearing formation of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin in Poland. Mineralogical study of tonsteins is important with relation to learning more about their tuffogenic protolith. It can also serve as one of the criteria when differentiating tonstein horizons with a similar texture: structure, granulation, directions and intensity of transformations of the tuffogenic m...

LANTHANIDES IN MINERAL ELEMENTS FOUND IN FLY ASHES FROM THE RYBNIK POWER PLANT

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Agnieszka Klupa, Zdzislaw Adamczyk, Andrzej Harat)

The Rare Earth Elements (REE) have been classified as resources critical for the European Union and divided into: light rare earth elements and heavy rare earth elements. The demand for REE is constantly increasing, which is connected with the wide range of their applications. The article presents the results of research conducted to determine the concentration of Rare Earth Elements in fly ashes obtained from the combustion of coal at the Rybnik Power Plant. The concentrations were measured using the ICP-MS and S...

MINERAL COMPOSITION OF THE RESPIRABLE DUST FORMED IN THE EXPLOITATION OF A COAL SEAM WITH TONSTEIN OVERGROWTH

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Zdzislaw Adamczyk, Andrzej Harat, Agnieszka Klupa)

It has been statistically proven that tuffogenic sediments, especially tonsteins, have a negative impact on the incidence of pneumoconiosis (silicosis) among miners in French coal basin. Therefore, the rocks attract the interest of geologists not only due to their origin and possibility of use for correlation purposes, but also as a source of dust hazard in mines. The present publication presents mineralogical tests of inhalable grain size dust formed during the exploitation of a coal seam with a tonstein overgrow...

SPINELS IN THE FLY ASH OF POWER PLANT RYBNIK (POLAND)

(STEF92 Technology, 2017-06-20, Agnieszka Klupa, Zdzislaw Adamczyk, Andrzej Harat)

The Power Plant Rybnik (Elektrownia Rybnik) is one of many in Poland, which is coal-fired. Fly ash, as is well known, are combustion by-products, which are mineral residue from burning coal. Their phase composition depends mainly on the quality of fuel (coal) and combustion conditions. In the mineral composition of the examined ashes one has identified minerals such as: glaze, quartz, mullite, spinels, hematite, and unburnt coal. Spinels present in the fly ash can be a source of some metals, and due to the magneti...
