BAUXITE MINERALIZATIONS OF MORTAS AND DOGANKUZU DEPOSITS, SEYDISEHIR – KONYA REGION, TURKEY: A GEOLOGICAL, MINERALOGICAL AND GEOCHEMICAL INVESTIGATION

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, T. A. Kepekli, M. Maral, D. Maral, T. Aydin, F. Suner)

Bauxite mineralizations of Seydisehir reside in western Taurides, in Konya region. Mesozoic limestones form the base of local stratigraphy. On top of these Eocene aged limestones and flysch units have precipitated. Allochthonous Paleozoic aged limestones of Hadim nappe units have moved on top of all these units. Formations of the region have undergone extensive tectonic activity. Bauxite mineralizations in the region are associated with Mesozoic limestones. They are located in karst spaces of limestones. These spa...

FORMATION OF ERENKOY MAGNESITE DEPOSITS, ESKISEHIR, WESTERN TURKEY: AN INITIAL STUDY

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, T. A. Kepekli, M. Maral, F. Suner)

Erenkoy magnesite deposits reside in Eskisehir and Bilecik provinces of northwestern Turkey. Local geology consists of metamorphites of blueschist facies in the base; ophiolitic rocks with mainly serpentinites, peridotites; ophiolitic melanges with a varying range of lithology: cherts, calcschists, blueschist rocks, limestone and on top of all these there are neogene sedimentary units that are mainly consisted of sandstone and clay formations. Magnesite deposits in the area are associated with ultramafic rocks: se...

GENERAL ASPECT OF DIFFERENT BARITE OCCURRENCES IN THE EAST OF ISTANBUL, TURKEY

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, M. Maral, D. Maral, T. A. Kepekli, A. Celenli, E. Hacioglu, M. Budakoglu, S. Sezer, S. Kilincarslan, F. Suner)

Barite occurrences east of Istanbul (NW Turkey) are compared major mineralogical and geochemical properties, and identified depositional origins. Sile barite occurrence, which is near Blacksea, north east of Istanbul, is alternated with Triassic sandstone. Petrographic observations reveal that barite grains are found out in the sand stones. Chemical analyses are conducted on eighteen samples via AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy) equipment for detection of Cu, Zn, Pb, Sr, Cd and Ni concentrations. Because of a v...

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF LOW RANK COAL OCCURRENCES IN BIGA PENINSULA, TURKEY

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, M. Maral, D. Maral, A. Kepekli, F. Suner)

The general properties and distribution of low rank coal occurrences were investigated in Biga Peninsula, Turkey. Coal occurrences were alternated along with Tertiary clastic, volcanoclastic and continental units in the peninsula, one of the basic metallic and industrial mineral potential regions in Turkey. The collected twenty-six lignite samples from different beds were analyzed and evaluated. Proximate analyses contain to measure of moisture, ash, volatile matter, and fixed carbon parameters. The parameters of ...

THE PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION OF CAYIRHAN GLAUBERITE MINERALLIZATION IN ANKARA, TURKEY

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, M. Maral, D. Maral, T. A. Kepekli, A. D. Karakus, F. Suner)

Glauberite mineralization from Cayirhan, Ankara (Central Anatolia) has been investigated and identified the major mineralogical, petrographical and geochemical properties. Glauberite occurrence, a sodium calcium sulfate mineral (Na2Ca(SO4)2) by evaporation, is underneath the gypsum mineralization which accumulated at the contact zone between Pliocene aged Ucyatak and Softa formations. The mineralization is related to clay and mudstone, and accompanies with thenardite, gypsum, anhydrite, mirabilite and blodite. Maj...

THENARDITE MINERALIZATIONS OF CAYIRHAN SULFATE OCCURRENCES IN ANKARA, TURKEY: INVESTIGATION OF PARAGENESIS AND FORMATION MECHANISMS

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, T. A. Kepekli, M. Maral, D. Maral, A. Karalar, L. S. Gunacgun, F. Suner)

Preliminary investigation of mineralizations of Thenardite associated with sulfate occurrences in \cCayırhan – Beypazarı, Ankara is presented. Local geology consists of Paleozoic metamorphite schists, Permo-triassic granitic rocks, Middle Jurassic – Upper Cretaceous limestones and marls in flysch facies, Paleocene aged land sedimentaries and marine Eocene units, Miocene to Pliocene aged lacustrine units, which sodium sulfates are associated to. Thenardite, Glauberite and Mirabilite minerals have been detecte...
