(STEF92 Technology, 2021-12-20, Elena Hristova, Blagorodka Veleva, Stela Naydenova, Lenia Gonsalvesh)

Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) is recognized as the most harmful air pollutant in Europe. The PM2.5 toxic effect is not only due to its size but also to its chemical composition. Black Carbon (BC) is one of the components of the PM2.5 that affects both human health and contributes to climate change [1-3]. It is emitted by the incomplete combustion of fossil fuels, biofuels, and biomass. There are no regular measurements of the BC concentrations in Bulgaria. This work presents new results from parallel field campa...

(STEF92 Technology, 2021-12-20, Olga Frolova, Inga Grīnfelde, Jovita Pilecka-Uļčugačeva, Laima Bērziņa)

To achieve implementation of sustainable agriculture practices and implement circular bioeconomy in farms, agricultural waste and residuals commonly are used as feedstock for biogas production that is in line with European Union strategy to reduce methane emissions. Anaerobic digestion of feedstock results in production of the digestate. Digestate, on the one hand, is valuable fertilizer that can substitute synthetic fertilizers. On the other hand, it is associated with methane (CH4), ammonia (NH3) emissions and n...

(STEF92 Technology, 2021-12-20, Dominika Hodáková, Andrea Zuzulová, Silvia Cápayová, Tibor Schlosser)

In addition to the traffic load, the temperature also has a significant effect on the course of stresses in cement concrete slabs. It is the load of temperature changes that is often underestimated. Recently, there have been significant changes in climatic conditions and increasingly frequent extremes (especially high temperatures in the summer months and extreme fluctuations during the day), which affect the behavior of road structures and the basic characteristics affecting the stress of cement concrete pavement...

Precipitation chemistry has been intensively studied worldwide mainly due to acid deposition, eutrophication, trace metal deposition, damages to forests and vegetation, ecosystem health, and global climate change [1]. The objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between precipitation pH and wind direction for the period of five years (2015-2019) at coast Hydrometeorology station Ahtopol. The pH of bulk precipitation samples, as well as the wind direction are measured in the main synoptic terms (0...

STUDY OF THE INFLUENCE OF THE NORTH-ATLANTIC OSCILLATION ON THE SNOW COVER CONDITIONS IN BULGARIA

(STEF92 Technology, 2021-12-20, Dimitar B. Nikolov, Cvetan Dimitrov)

The NAO index has a strong influence on weather over West Europe and the Mediterranean basin but less prominent over the east part of Europe. The aim of this study is the assessment of the influence of the North-Atlantic oscillation on the snow cover conditions in Bulgaria. The winter (December thru March) station-based index of the NAO is used for the current survey as well as data for snow cover maximums from 10 meteorological stations, 4 of them mountainous, for the main period 1930-2020. The linear relation be...

SYSTEMATIC RESEARCHS FOR REDUCING CARBON DIOXIDE EMISSIONS FROM FOSSIL FUELS USING GEOLOGICAL STORAGE IN ROMANIA

(STEF92 Technology, 2021-12-20, Sorin Anghel, Constantin Ștefan Sava, Alexandra Dudu)

The Romanian storage sites for CO2 geological storage are located in the Oltenia Region, in the south – western part of Romania, within a 50 km radius circle around Turceni Power Plant. This zone comprises a part of the Getic Depression and a small part of the western sector of the Moesian Platform, two of the main geological units bearing oil and gas deposits, which were explored and studied over the years. In this zone of investigation only aquifers in the Tertiary formations have been considered as potentially ...

TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS TO REDUCE TOXIC EMISSIONS FROM WORKPLACES IN THE THERMO-ENERGY SYSTEM

(STEF92 Technology, 2021-12-20, Bogdan Alexandru Radulescu)

Within the thermal power plants there are many places where the personnel work inimproper conditions. Depending on the concentration and toxicity of gases, duration ofexposure for the personnel, the air can have harmful effects. Currently, several specificmeasures to limit toxic gases have been introduced in the thermal energy system. Thispaper presents as example the situation in Borzesti thermal power plant, throughmodern methods of analysis, by identification and monitoring the physical and chemicalproperties o...

THE ASSESSMENT OF AIR QUALITY STATUS IN SOFIA CITY - NUMERICAL SIMULATIONS OF THE DOMINANT POLLUTANTS THAT DETERMINES THE AIR QUALITY INDEX

(STEF92 Technology, 2021-12-20, Ivelina Georgieva)

Based on 3D modelling tools, an extensive database was created and used for differentstudies of atmospheric composition. The simulations were based on the US EPA Model-3 system. The models in the system were adapted and validated for Bulgaria. This gavethe opportunity to conduct extensive studies on a fully competitive modern level of theclimate of atmospheric composition in the country. On this basis, a statistically significantensemble of Air Quality indexes (AQI) was calculated, and their typical recurrence,spa...

THE CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK OF GHG MODULE INTEGRATION IN CONCEPTUAL HYDROLOGICAL MODEL METQ

(STEF92 Technology, 2021-12-20, Inga Grīnfelde, Jovita Pilecka-Uļčugačeva, Anda Bakute, Laima Bērziņa, Sindija Liepa)

The mitigation of GHG emissions from anthropogenic ecosystems is one of a challenge for following decades. Successful GHG emission mitigation scenarios can be developed if there are tools to predict GHG emission trends according to climate, soil conditions, farm management practices, and other factors. One of the essential GHG emission sources is managed agricultural soils, and the most important factors are soil conditions, soil moisture, and temperature. The conceptual hydrological model METQ has been created un...

An immunological diagnostic examination of 255 children permanently residing in the zone of influence of exogenous haptens and the intense climate of the Arctic was performed. The control group consisted of 130 children living in the territory beyond the influence of exogenous chemical and climatogeographic factors. Determination of total serum immunoglobulins G, A, M was performed using the Mancini radial immunodiffusion reaction. The concentration of total IgE, neuron-specific enolase and VEGF was determined usi...

Climate change is one of the most discussed topics around the world. They occur both globally and regionally and are not synchronous in time and space. This research is devoted to analysing climatic changes in the basin of the Sea of Azov. The territory is located in the south of the European part of Russia and includes the basins of the Don and Kuban rivers. The reference stations are in different landscape zones: forest-steppe, moderate-arid steppe, arid steppe, dry steppe, semi-desert. The study period is 1961-...
