ADVANCED PASSIVE COOLING FOR BIPV INPROVED EFFICIENCY

(STEF92 Technology, 2026, Tiberiu Catalina, Ovidiu Leonard Vlad, Angel Dogeanu, Catalin Teodosiu, Iosif Ilies)

This paper represents the results of an experimental investigation of the thermal behaviour of Building Integrated Photovoltaic Panels (BIPV), evalauted in three configuration differentiated by the geometry on the rear ventilation chanel a non-ventilated panel (P1), a 10 x 10 mm longitudinal channels (P2) and a 30x10mm chanels (P3). Measurements were carried out between 10 and 18 of March 2026 using infrared thermography measurements and K type thermocouples under a vertical plane solar irradiation between 890 and...

ANALYSIS OF REAL-TIME HEATING ENERGY DATA DURING THE BUILDING RENOVATION PROCESS

(STEF92 Technology, 2026, Stanislavs Gendelis, Andris Jakovics, Eizens Putnins)

This paper analyses a multi-apartment residential building undergoing staged renovation during the heating season using real-time, hourly metered heat consumption data over two consecutive winters in a temperate-cold climate. The renovation is implemented in clearly identifiable phases, which enables an empirical, measure-by-measure assessment of changes in heating demand as works progress. The analysed interventions include insulation of basement heat distribution pipework, attic insulation, external wall insulat...

APPLICATION OF BIM TO ENHANCE THE SAFETY OF RAILWAY CROSSINGS THROUGH THE IDENTIFICATION OF RISK-CRITICAL PARAMETER COMBINATIONS

(STEF92 Technology, 2026, Michal Kostelecky, Jan Petru, Vladislav Krivda, Jan Stetar, Vaclav Skvain)

This paper addresses the safety of railway crossings as critical elements of transport infrastructure where rail and road traffic interact. The current design approach is primarily based on normative assessment of individual parameters, such as road geometry and sight conditions, typically evaluated in isolation. However, this approach does not sufficiently capture the interactions between parameters, which significantly influence the overall level of safety. The aim of the paper is to identify inappropriate combi...

CLIMATE ACTION AND GOVERNANCE FOR ENHANCING THE RESILIENCE OF URBAN AREAS: PARKS AS NATURE-BASED SOLUTIONS AND THE CHALLENGES OF ANTHROPOGENIC PRESSURE

(STEF92 Technology, 2026, Mirona Madalina Popescu, Rares Halbac-Cotoara-Zamfir, Dorin Camen)

Accelerated urbanization represents one of the most significant pressures on the urban environment. The transition from "green" to "grey" amplifies the vulnerability of cities to the effects of climate change (temperature rise, floods, droughts, and air quality degradation). In this context, urban green spaces, and public parks in particular, acquire a strategic role as nature-based solutions (NBS). NBS are capable of providing essential ecosystem services such as mitigating the urban heat island effect, stormwate...

FROM CAMERAS TO CONFLICTS: A REVIEW OF MODERN TECHNOLOGIES FOR TRAFFIC SURVEYS, VEHICLE TRACKING AND NEAR-MISS DETECTION AT INTERSECTIONS

(STEF92 Technology, 2026, Ondrej Mikstein, Dominik Gresica, Miroslav Pinka, Jan Petru, Vladislav Krivda)

This review paper provides a comprehensive overview of contemporary traffic survey approaches, focusing on advanced data acquisition platforms and AI-based video analytics. The study highlights a significant transformation in traffic engineering, where traditional data collection methods are being complemented by modern solutions to provide detailed behavioral and safety-related insights. Central to this shift is the use of surrogate safety measures (SSMs) based on traffic conflicts and near-miss events, such as T...

HALOPHYTES AND MEDITERRANEAN XEROPHYTES IN EXTENSIVE GREEN ROOF SYSTEMS: IMPLICATIONS FOR STORMWATER RETENTION AND NATURE-BASED SALINE IRRIGATION STRATEGIES

(STEF92 Technology, 2026, Georgios Lykokanellos, Zinovia Desipri, Emmanouil Ionas Nikitas Kemaloglou, Stanimir Shalamanov, Valeria Ivanova)

Urbanization and climate change increase pressure on water resources and urban drainage systems, particularly in Mediterranean regions. Extensive green roofs have emerged as nature-based solutions capable of reducing stormwater runoff while improving urban microclimates. The present study evaluates the performance of halophytic and Mediterranean drought-tolerant plant species in extensive green roof systems irrigated with waters of different salinity levels. An experimental setup using the DIADEM-150 multilayer gr...

IMPACT OF DESIGNING THE SAME BUILDING TO DIFFERENT ENERGY PERFORMANCE STANDARDS ON LIFE-CYCLE COSTS

(STEF92 Technology, 2026, Stanislavs Gendelis, Andris)

This paper analyses how designing the same single-family building to different energy performance standards affects its life-cycle costs. The study compares five design scenarios for one building, starting from the current national minimum energy performance requirement, moving through a typical nearly zero-energy building solution and an enhanced NZEB variant, and progressing towards a highly energy-efficient Passive House and a Passive House PLUS solution with on-site photovoltaic generation. Each scenario is ev...

SUSTAINABLE STRUCTURAL DESIGN OF A HYPERLOOP POD FOR FUTURE HIGH-SPEED TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS

(STEF92 Technology, 2026, Szymon Lisak, Lukasz Wiwatowski)

The development of sustainable and energy-efficient transportation systems has become an important aspect of modern urban planning and future smart mobility concepts. This project presents the initial structural design work carried out for a Hyperloop pod intended to operate in a low-pressure transportation environment as part of an innovative high-speed transport system. The research focused on the development of two alternative load-bearing frame concepts: a welded steel structure and a modular aluminum structur...

THE AIR TEMPERATURE PROFILE ABOVE THE NON-GREEN AND GREEN FLAT ROOF OF LARGE BUILDING AND ITS IMPACT ON THE ENERGY EFFICIENCY OF ROOFTOP HVAC UNIT

(STEF92 Technology, 2026, Martin Kovac)

Two variants of roof construction were compared. It is a non-green roof and the extensive green roof. The analysis of surface temperature of flat roof was provided by the simulation in DesignBUILDER v7. The surface temperature of extensive green roof was lower up to 28 K in comparison with the non-green roof. The results from DesignBUILDER were used as data input for the CFD model in ANSYS CFX. The results from CFD model showed that the outside air temperature close to the surface of non-green roof can rise to 3.7...

A MULTI-PURPOSE, EXPERIMENTAL PLATFORM FOR TESTING THE PROPERTIES OF FULLY ACTUATED MULTIROTORS (OMNICOPTERS)

(STEF92 Technology, 2025-12-27, Jedrzej Minda, Mateusz Pruszczak)

Omnicopters are fully actuated UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) with some special properties, such as the ability to fly in an arbitrarily chosen orientation. However, many of their characteristics, including their resistance to wind gusts, remain poorly understood. This paper presents a new multirotor design that can be used to conduct comparative studies. The proposed platform is an eight-engine aircraft, and its main advantage is the ability to rearrange four of the motors between two configurations when landed,...
