DETERMINATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL PLATINUM POLLUTION BY INDUCTIVELY COUPLED PLASMA MASS-SPECTROMETRY

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, ST. Palesskiy, I. Nikolaeva, O. Kozmenko)

The accurate determination of the platinum group elements (PGEs) in environmental samples has become a particularly important in the past few years with the introduction of new legislation regulating the fitting of catalytic converters to petrol vehicles [1]. The emission of PGEs autocatalysts represents a potentially, highly mobile source of environmental contamination. Pt, Pd and Rh from catalyst degradation are deposited along roadways. Although inert in metallic form, platinum salts pose a real health risk. Th...

DETERMINATION OF FLUORINE IN GEOCHEMICAL REFERENCE MATERIALS AND COAL BY INSTRUMENTAL PHOTON ACTIVATION ANALYSIS

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, I. Krausova, J. Mizera, Z. Randa, D. Chvatil, I. Sykorova)

Fluorine as one of the most abundant trace elements in coals is released into the air by combustion and pyrolysis of coal. The produced fluorine gaseous compounds, particularly hydrogen fluoride, are harmful due to their toxicity to living organisms and as a source of corrosion of metallic and ceramic materials. Reliable determination of generally very low concentrations of fluorine in coal (ten to hundred ppm level) is difficult. Standard analytical methods require tedious procedures for sample decomposition and ...

In order to prepare minimal feature vectors to be used in a Content Based Image Recognition (CBIR) system, we are proposing methods that can accurately identify the main colors contained in a digital image. The methods use the “LAB” color space properties that allow for all the colors of the same intensity or luminance “L” to be placed uniformly in the same “ab” plane. Basically, RGB images are first preprocessed: trimmed, scaled and transformed in the LAB color space. Then (a,b) pairs, corresponding t...

FISCAL IMPACT OF SELECTED LEGISLATIVE SOLUTIONS IN POLAND ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN THE CONTEXT OF THE REAL ESTATE MARKET ANALYSIS

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, J. Dabrowski, P. Parzych, J. Bydlosz)

The authors while examining the real estate market for estimating the market value of real estate have defined the areas directly affecting the state of the ecosystem. Using a very simple and inexpensive test, they identified anomalies at the fiscal level of state and estimated negative effects of legislation on the ecosystem. The main research tool was a comparative approach in estimating the value of the property.

FLOATABILITY OF ESKISEHIR KOYUNAGILI REGION LIGNITE FINES

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, D. OZ Aksoy, S. Koca, H. Koca)

In this work, samples were taken from Koyunagili Lignites Company Washing Plant feed and were subjected to extensive research to determine the floatability of lignite fines. The optimum conditions of flotation were determined under the laboratory conditions by using a laboratory type Denver flotation cell. In the flotation experiments particle size distribution, collector type and amount and dispersant amount were tested as variables. After flotation experiments, at optimum conditions, 53.91 \% of the sample was f...

FLOODS AND FLASHFLOODS IN EDIRNE (TURKEY)

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, M. ULUDAG H. Turoglu)

Edirne, which is one of the bigest city in western Turkey (Figure 1), has been damaged by floods and flashfloods with an increasing frequency and intensity over the years. This study was prepared as a preliminary investigation and aimed to research the floods and flooding in Edirne city (Turkey). For creating the topographic database in Geographic Information System (GIS), 1/25000 and 1/250000 scale topographic maps and satellite images was used. Subbasins areas of Meric River and flood area in Edirne city center ...

FLORISTIC COMPOSITION AND SINTAXONOMICAL POSITION OF THE PHYTOCOENOSIS QUERCETUM TROJANAE DUKAGJINI REXHEPI

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, F. Rexhepi, F. Millaku, E. Krasniqi)

Association Quercetum trojanae dukagjini in Kosovo as relict and refugial phytocoenosis is preserved only in some specific localities: near Pashtrik, Koritnik, Oshlak and some individuals in complex of Carralevas Mountains near Theranda. The altitude of these grounds is from 300 to 900 m (1000 m). Geological composition is made of limestone rocks. The pedological cover is red earth (terra rosa). The phytocenosis is under the Mediterranean climate, which comes through the valley of the Drini i Bardh\"e River. Phyto...

FLOTATION OF COAL FROM MINE STASZICZ

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, P. Fecko, I. Janakova, A. Kasparkova, B. Tora)

The goal of the work was verification of floatabilty of bituminous coal from mine Staszicz with different collectors (Flotalex and Montanol), which are generally used in coal cleaning plants in Czech Republic and Poland. From the flotation and petrological results follows that floatability of given coal is approximately equal at Flotalex and Montanol application.
